Seniors in the spotlight, and a movie to talk about! A group of our members were gathered at Sathyam cinemas, and we got to experience the movie “Thaai Kizhavi” together. Curious about their thoughts on the film, we asked them specific questions and got some heartfelt responses. From praise to constructive criticism, they spoke their minds. Dive into their reviews and see what they thought…

Q: What was your favourite part of the movie that touched your heart?

“The scene where Radhika reveals her gold savings and tells how much she had sacrificed for her children especially for her daughter. But then she shared all of it among her daughter and daughters in law which was really a good one. And also, the advice about women freedom, especially about today's scenario where freedom must be used appropriately was nice”

“In the climax when the mom asks her daughter to accept for second marry” - Geetha aunty

“The ambulance scene, when the driver says that all these sins will be passed to the next generation and then third son makes his brothers realize their greed was very good”

“When Radhika reveals the gold and says about the responsibilities of women was quite good” Kamala aunty

“Most touching scene was when the third son met the ambulance driver and the family who were praying for the old lady. The first impression that we get is that they were praying for her to survive but then when we realize they were actually praying for her to give up, it was quite shocking. Then the driver explains to the son about the people's nature and how he often tries to delay the death as much as possible probably give a chance for the patient to live. And this makes the third son think and he has a change in heart. It was almost realistic as he realises it wasn’t okay how he was treating his mother...” Sumathi aunty

“I liked the climax where Radhika asks her daughter to remarry because in those days she was broad minded” Meenakshi aunty

“The part when the mother tells the ladies how a girl should be brave and lead her life” Shanta Lakshmi aunty

Q: Was there anything that you didn't like about the movie?

“the way how some old people in that village were treated by their kids was a bit hurting”

Overall I didn’t like the film at all. Especially the dialogues were so fast to grasp and with a lot of colloquial words. But I liked Radhika’s acting alone.” Subramanian uncle

Q: Who was your favourite character and how did you find the acting of Radhika and others?

“Beautiful acting by Radhika. Even when she was shown as a sick person, she did a great job.!”

“The character Gold raj, came” Radha Shankar aunty

 “Radhika's acting was awesome”

“Super film! I came to watch the movie only for Radhika and nothing else. Generally, I like her acting very much and in this movie.. it was excellent” Kasturi aunty

Q: Did the scene where Radhika reveals her gold savings surprise you, or was it predictable?

“It was a surprise, but 300 pounds of gold seemed too much”

“The climax didn't surprise me. Knowing the character of Radhika and how she was behaving, it was quite predictable. And she says that all the gold savings for her daughter but finally she gave the share to her daughter in laws also as they sold their jewellery and did a lot of vows to save Radhika even if it was intentionally to get the Jackpot. Finally, Radhika had a good heart and shared all the savings to the ladies and also taught them how to live their life.. the message was very good” Radha Shankar aunty

Q: Were there any scenes that made you laugh?

“There wasn’t much comedy”

“The much-awaited scene where the 3 sons ask their mom what she was trying to say back at their house, and she reveals that she was asking them to switch off the fan in her room.. that was very funny” Hema Karthikeyan aunty

“That drunkard man couldn't do anything but then he becomes the protector of the lamp, gets a space to lie down. What all he does to keep the lamp lit, makes the scene funny. It is comedy in real life, like he does what never expected himself to do and get paid for it too. The way the scene was taken was very very humorous... And also, the scene where the doctor talks in English and those guys misunderstand and later when the Chinese doctor talks in Tamil and makes the other doctor understand what he did. But the doctor speaks in English again and the same thing happens” Sumathi aunty

Q: Is this movie worth watching in theatre and how would you rate it out of 5?

“I liked the movie but not the 1st half, it was too noisy maybe because of the theatre effect. If people had thought the whole movie would be like this then they would have left by the interval itself but if they watch the 2nd half only, they will realize the movie is good. Beautiful messages near the ending”

“I would give only 3 because of too much noise and fighting” Hema Karthikeyan aunty

“maybe 2 out of 5” Geetha aunty

“For the rating, I say 4 out of 5” Shanta Lakshmi aunty

“And rating I would say 4.5” Sumathi aunty

Q: Did you eat anything in the interval? How was it?

“Snacks were of course very nice. There's a saying in Tamil செவுக்குண வில்லாத போழ்து சிறிது வயிற்றுக்கும் ஈயப் படும் but today we had some good ones for both”

“Drank coffee and puffs
